As a USCG captain and CNY native, I strive to offer the most diverse and all inclusive chartering packages that can be found in the area. Encompassing a number of great bodies of water and species across the region, Central New York is home to some of the most phenomenal and diverse fishing opportunities that can be found in the North East. From world class walleye & bass fisheries, to deep, cold glacial lakes, up to the shores of mighty Lake Ontario, we truly have it all. Fishing aboard my fully outfitted 2021 StarCraft fish master we fish in comfort while also having the ability to trailer to many different locations and fish for key species through out the year. Whether it be spring brown trout on Lake Ontario, walleye on Oneida lake, or the trout or salmon of the finger lakes, we've got you covered with the knowledge, gear, and experience to put fish in the boat and send you home with an unforgettable experience.
When spring comes to the region, some of the best brown trout fishing you could ever asks for takes place in the cold, shallow waters of the south shore of Lake Ontario. Using trolling techniques primarily focusing on top of the water column, and implementing the use of planer boards, the action can be extremely hot and heavy, with some large fish to boot. This is a great style of fishing for beginner and advanced fisherman alike. Using a vessel that we can trailer to different launches on the south shore gives us a huge advantage in finding the best possible bite for you and your crew. Finding the right water color and temperature are crucial for a good brown trout bite, we may travel up to 50 plus miles to do so, once we find them, its game on!
During the summer months we have the option to fish smaller groups in Lake Ontario, weather and wave pending. The need to go way offshore, and uncertain weather and wave conditions can make this difficult. As first mate on Midway Charters, we have the option to put you and your crew aboard a 30 ft. Penn Yan, to venture out deep to fish for King salmon, lake trout, and brown trout. Call and ask about fishing on Midway charters during the summer months for more information.
When the king salmon come from the depths of Lake Ontario and congregate around the shallow mouth of the Salmon River, we see some phenomenal salmon fishing close to shore. These fish are ANGRY and can reach over 30 pounds, it can be some of the most intense and memorable fishing of the year. DONT miss out on fishing "staging" kings, I start offering these trips the 1st of September, until the end of the month.
The Finger lakes are deep, glacial lakes that span a wide area of the central part of the state. We will be concentrating our efforts on the ones that are within 45 minutes of Syracuse. These lakes are known for their beauty, as well as awesome fishing through the spring and summer. Lake trout, rainbow trout, brown trout, and landlocked salmon make up our catch on the finger lakes. This "mixed bag" fishing can be very productive in the spring and early summer. The diversity in species makes it exciting, as you never know what that next bite is going to be. Our boat is perfectly outfitted to fish these lakes, and having the ability to fish a few of these bodies of water also gives us a huge advantage in going where the "hot" bite is, or simply fishing a lake that is close to you and your crew! Some of the best action on the Finger Lakes can be had in May and June, if you like steady action or just want some good eating trout and salmon to bring home, we can achieve that while fishing the finger lakes. I have put ample time on these bodies of water to ensure that we are making the most of our time, all of our gear and tackle remain dialed in and double checked to ensure as many fish to the boat as possible. The Finger Lakes are hands down my favorite fishery that CNY has to offer, come out and see for yourself!
Last, but certainly not least, we will be offering charters on Oneida lake for walleye. Oneida lake is known to be one of the best walleye fisheries in the North East, and the sheer number of walleye in this lake is staggering! These tasty fish are fun to catch, and we target them in a number of ways, all are very user friendly. Jigging and trolling methods alike are extremely effective on Oneida lake, as well as targeting them at night. Walleye fishing can make for an action packed day and are one of the best freshwater fish to eat. The flaky white meat of these fish is sought after by anglers all over the world, once you try one, you'll understand why! Ask me about day, or night charters on Oneida lake any time from may through august, walleye fishing remains good all spring and summer. We access the lake near Bridgeport, a short drive from Syracuse.
